Board of Directors

Asian Center of Southeast Michigan is managed by a seven-member Board of Directors that provides oversight to the organization with one Director. The board is led by Dr. Janilla Lee, Executive Director and non-voting Board of Director, oversees the organization’s operation and performance.

Anao Zhang, Ph.D.    

 

Janilla Lee, Ph.D. – Executive Director and non-voting Board of Director

Dr. Janilla Lee is currently a research scientist at the Program for Multi-Cultural Health, University of Michigan Health System focusing on Asian Americans’ health. She is also the Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director at the Asian Center – Southeast Michigan, a community health organization serving Asian Americans in Michigan. She has been studying Asian American health at U of M since 2006; a health advocate since 1996. She taught material engineering at Central Michigan University for 4 years prior. She came to academia after retired as Engineering and Program Manager from Ford Motor Co; her automotive expertise was in product design/development and program management, mostly in interior systems. She graduated in chemistry from National Taiwan University and had her Ph.D. in Quantum Mechanics from University of Notre Dame.

She has been very actively serving the Asian American communities and the community at large for over 25 years. She served the following organizations:

  • Michigan Chinese Women Association – board member
  • Asian Pacific American Women Leadership Institute – board member
  • Association of Chinese Americans – board member
  • New Detroit, Inc. – board member

 Tim (Yu Ting) Wei   魏昱廷

Mr. Tim Wei is currently an attorney at Hirmiz, Franso & Associates, PLLC.  He specializes in Intellectual Property Law, Immigration Law, and Contract Law.

Mr. Wei had previously worked at Miller IP Law Firm; and Gregory J. Reed P.L.C.

Mr. Wei earned his Juris Doctor from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School; and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from New York Institute of Technology.

Stephanie Beau

Stephanie Beau is currently working with DTE Energy Company’s Marketing Organization as Principal Account Manager, for Major Account Services.

Prior to her current job, she worked in various International Import-Export Companies in Seoul, (Korea), New York City and in Metro Detroit Area over 20 years. Her focus was on industrial and agricultural products, and fashion apparel design for the clothing industry. She also was a partner in a consulting firm for the automobile industry..

Stephanie earned B. S. degree in Nursing from National Taiwan University. She has additional Liberal Arts studies at N.Y.U, .and Merchandising at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Further, she took coursework in Global Management in the University of Phoenix MBA program.

She serves on Non-Profit organizations including:

  • Founding member & Advisory Board Member, Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce (APACC); and
  • Founding member & Advisory Board Member, Council of Asian Pacific Americans (CAPA).

Jamie C. Hsu, Ph.D.

Dr. Jamie C. Hsu is Professor of Management at the Lawrence Technological Univ, specializing in strategic management, leadership development, automotive technology management, and global collaboration.

Dr. Hsu earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Solid Mechanics from Brown University, and B. S. in Civil Engineering from National Taiwan University.

Marie Huynh

Marie Huynh is currently celebrating 30 years of service at Beaumont Hospital as a Medical Records Analyst Coordinator.

Marie is an active member in the Vietnamese Community. For the past 3 years and present, She is the Director of Special Events within the Vietnamese American Association of Michigan (VAAM). Marie is in charge of organizing all the special events for VAAM, which is all of their fund-raising and health fair events yearly.

Marie serves as a Co-Chair of the Vietnamese Annual Health Fair Executive Committee.

Marie is also a Board of Directors member with the Asian Center –SE MI chapter. In addition she is a certified leader for the health education program with the Asian Center SE- MI.

Tilak Sharma M.B.A.

Tilak Sharma retired as a program manager from Chrysler Corporation after 28 years of service. He also worked as a manager at TISCO Corporation, India.

  • Tilak is a chairperson for the Bhartiya Temple Seniors Committee.
  • He was vice president of I.L.O. India.
  • He is a very active member of Indian Community.

Anao Zhang, Ph.D.

A health and mental health intervention researcher, Dr. Zhang researches evidence-based practice, integrated behavioral health, psychosocial oncology and social determinants of health. Zhang’s research focuses on understanding the interconnectedness between mental and physical health, and how such connection can inform psychosocial interventions to benefit clients’ health in medical settings, especially oncology patients and their family members.

Zhang is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers, and a diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. Zhang has over five years of clinical experiences in various hospital settings and specializes in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Dr. Zhang received his Ph.D. in Social Work from The University of Texas at Austin with certification in the graduate portfolio program in applied statistical modeling from the Department of Statistics and Data Science. His MSW was from the University of Pennsylvania.
