Asian Center of Southeast Michigan’s day-to-day operations are managed by a highly skilled and motivated team. The team is always looking for innovative and creative ways to deliver programs and services in support of our communities!


Janilla Lee, Ph.D.

Executive Director and non-voting Board of Director

At Asian Center – SE MI, Dr. Lee writes proposals for funding on every program. She takes the responsibility of delivering each program as committed in the proposal, including its scientific and data integrity, and compliance to government regulations and funding criteria. She provides program directions, monitors budget, timing and progress. She leads the acculturation of the project and the training of Community Health Workers. Often, she even engages in the actual seminars and/or workshops delivery, and data analyses. She also interfaces with the funding agency regularly; writes the final report. For her hard work, she received the 2018 Michigan Governor’s New Immigrant Humanitarian Philanthropy Award.

  
  

Dr. Mohana Walambe

Assistant Director

Dr. Mohana Walambe, a physician with specializations in Ophthalmology and Industrial Medicine, is also a Certified Tumor Registrar, a Karuna and Usui Reiki Master, animal communication Yoga teacher and a trained hospice volunteer, for which she has been awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award. She has volunteered as an eye surgeon for Lions International, having performed free eye-surgeries on over 1000 needy and poor people in rural India. She is also one of the pioneers in promoting corneal donation in India. Dr. Walambe can converse in 6 Indian languages.

Bruce Wang

Financial Manager

Bruce Wang is the Financial Manager at Asian Center-SE MI. He creates and maintains monthly financial reports for AC-SE MI and all the ongoing programs. He joined Asian Center- SE MI in January 2020.

Mr. Wang retired from Continental Automotive AG. He specialized in product design/development and program management for Interior Instrumentation and Driver HMI systems. Prior to that, he participated in design and development work for automotive driver information systems and personal and industrial computers. He holds 8 US patents in his name.

Mr. Wang graduated from Lawrence Institute of Technology in Michigan with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

He was on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Chinese School. He also served as a Director for the Chinese Cultural Center in Michigan.

  
  

Meera Vijan

Project Manager

Meera Vijan is presently a Mentor-in-Residence at the University of Michigan, Office of Technology Transfer, and works with faculty and post-docs to commercialize their startup companies. Ms. Vijan graduated with a B.S. in Physics in India and an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Detroit. She was President of Ovonic Battery Company, a subsidiary of Energy Conversion Devices, and has worked in the advanced battery and flat panel display industry for over 30 years. She has experience working with domestic and international high-tech companies, including setting up manufacturing plants, joint ventures etc.

Ms. Vijan has been very active in the Asian Indian community at large for 25 years. Her community service includes:

  • Asian Indian coordinator for Healthy Asian American Project (HAAP) at the University of Michigan, School of Nursing.
  • Workshops on Self-Management of Pain and Chronic Diseases.
  • SE Michigan Regional Partners on the PATH (Personal Action towards Health).
  • Youth Committee Chairperson and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Bharatiya Temple.
  • President of the American Society of Engineers of Indian Origin.
  
  

Lisa Hou

Program Manager

Lisa Hou is a Program Manager at AC-SE MI, in charge of “Dementia and Brain Health”, “Caregiver of Dementia Patient Training” and “HBV Education and Training program”, etc. She has volunteered at AC-SE MI in various programs since 2012.

Ms. Hou has been an insurance agent since 1992, specializing in life insurance, ACA plans and group insurance. She is also familiar with Medicare and Medicaid plans.

Ms. Hou was Principal at Michigan Chinese School from 2008-2009. She was President of Michigan Chinese Women Organization from 2012-2013. She has helped at Tzu Chi Da Ai Drama Subtitle Translation Project since 2010. She also volunteers her free time with other community organizations.

  
  

Jan Cheng

Long Term Community Health Worker and Program Support

Jan Cheng retired from Dr. Tina Pickett`s Dermatology as an Administrator after 13 years. She was an IT Programmer for Chrysler and Ford Motor Company for 5 years. Jan worked at two Japanese companies, Showa Aluminum Corp. and Cosmo Corp for 16 years as an Administrator. 

Ms. Cheng has a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor’s in Accounting and Statistics from Ming Chuan College in Taiwan.

She has volunteered in many civic and technical organizations, serving as:

  • Board member of the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of Greater Detroit for over 10 years.
  • Staff member of Asian Center- SE MI for 6 years.
